Dr. Heath Hendrickson was born in Richfield, Utah and is a current resident of Heber City, Utah. He graduated from Creighton University Dental School in May of 2002.
Dr. Hendrickson has been in private practice since 2002. His first practice, Synergy Dental, focused on full mouth rehabilitative dentistry. His patient family was limited to adults and the practice only accepted insurance on a third party basis. He trained extensively in occlusion, full mouth rehabilitation, and in biologic and biomimetic dentistry.
In 2007, Dr. Hendrickson transitioned to the full-time removal of third molars. He purchased an existing practice, Wisdom Teeth Only, from retiring oral surgeon Dr. Oscar Daniel Bluth. Since that time, Dr. Hendrickson has removed over 80,000 third molars and attended the sedation of over 35,000 patients.
In 2018, Dr. Hendrickson partnered with Dr. John Wayland at Western Surgical and Sedation. As partners, they enjoy sharing their combined experience by teaching doctors how to improve third molar surgical outcomes. And in addition, teaching doctors to safely use IV Sedation on a regular basis in their practices.
Currently, Dr. Hendrickson resides with his wife, Karissa and 8 children in the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah. He enjoys reading, skiing, traveling and passing the time with his wife and family.
Dr. Wayland was born in Chicago, Illinois and currently lives in Wailuku, Hawaii. He is a 1981 graduate of UCSF School of Dentistry and a former faculty member at UCSF and UCLA Schools of Dentistry. He has lectured internationally on a variety of dental subjects.
Dr. Wayland is a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and a diplomate in the International Dental Implant Association. He is a California Dental Board on site IV Sedation Evaluator, California Sedation Permit #163, ACLS Certified, Master in the College of Sedation – American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and former Doctors Hospital Staff.
He is the author of Impacted Third Molars and has removed more than 25,000 full bony impacted third molars with oral and IV sedation. Dr. Wayland is co-founder of Western Surgical and Sedation. He maintains a mobile third molar removal practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Dr. Daniel Whittaker is a native of the Leelanau Peninsula in Northern Michigan. He graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry in 2007 and established his first dental office in a small rural town in Ohio. Since then he has added 5 more offices.
Dr. Whittaker attended his first exodontia course with Western Surgical and Sedation in 2012. He now has one day a week in his office reserved for third molar removal with IV sedation. He routinely removes 4 third molars in 20 minutes or less. Dr. Whittaker is a Master in the College of Sedation, American Dental Society of Anesthesia.
The overall theme of his practice and life is integrity. His warm and caring personality and ability to communicate clearly make Dr. Whittaker a popular WSS faculty member.
Dr. Thomas E. Lenhart is a Board-Certified Dentist Anesthesiologist and a licensed California General Dentist. He completed his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of California San Diego, a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Boston University School of Dental Medicine, and has gone beyond that training to receive significant, additional training and experience in a postdoctoral medical/dental anesthesia residency program at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Medical Center and Affiliate Hospitals.
Dr. Lenhart lectures in the US and Internationally to various organizations on topics such as Conscious Sedation, Oral Sedation, Deep Sedation, General Anesthesia, Office-based Anesthesia, Nitrous Oxide, Pharmacology, Pediatric Anatomy & Physiology, Pain Management and Medical Emergencies.
Dr. Traboulsi received his doctor of dental surgery (DDS) degree from Saint Joseph University and completed his three-year postdoctoral periodontology residency at Boston University, Goldman School of Dental Medicine. During his residency, he obtained a master’s degree in oral biology.
Dr. Traboulsi is a gifted speaker and surgeon. His practice is focused on periodontology, the placement of dental implants, and the removal of impacted third molars with IV sedation.
Dr. Diercks received his D.D.S. in 1998 from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Dr. Diercks completed several WSS courses where he demonstrated outstanding surgical skills. Third molar removal with IV sedation is an integral part of his daily practice. He joined the WSS faculty in 2016.
When not at work, Dr. Diercks enjoys just about anything outdoors. He is a motorcycle enthusiast and trys to spend as much time as possible on the bike when the weather is nice. He is married with a new baby boy and lives in San Jose.
Dr. Johnson is a native of Yakima, WA who now lives and practices in Sandpoint, ID. Dr. Johnson received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1997, graduating near the top of his class. While at UW, Dr. Johnson participated in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clerkship at Harborview Hospital performing surgical and complex exodontia under the supervision of OMFS faculty and residents. Also at UW, he completed elective coursework in IV sedation, performing IV sedation on medically compromised hospital patients alongside GPR faculty and residents. Dr. Johnson has completed IV Sedation courses at WSS and incorporates intravenous sedation as part of his daily routine in general practice.
Dr. Johnson has successfully performed thousands of cases of surgical/impacted exodontia in more than 20 years of oral surgery/sedation focused general practice and thoroughly enjoys giving back through continuing education at WSS. Dr. Johnson is ACLS and IV Sedation certified, and Master in the College of Sedation – American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
In addition to a busy clinic schedule, Dr. Johnson is currently completing his MBA in Healthcare Management at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Johnson and his wife, Carla, have 3 children and actively enjoy boating, traveling, and snow skiing.
Dr. Sun received his DDS degree from New York University. This was followed by a general practice residency, two years of advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and a periodontics residency. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and certified in IV sedation.
Very few practitioners have the broad scope of surgical training acquired by Dr. Sun. His extensive surgical training is a great asset to WSS attendees.
Dr. Sun is an avid sports fan, enjoying basketball and football, and all USC Trojans sports. He also loves outdoor activities such as swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving. He has recently picked up surfing, paddle boarding, and golf.
Dr. Vella is a native of Charleroi, Belgium. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Buffalo Dental School in 1985. Dr. Vella was an associate professor at the University of Rochester from 1986 – 2004.
Dr. Vella is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. Dr. Vella is certified in oral and IV sedation. He received his certificate of achievement in advanced IV sedation and airway management from the Dental Board of California in 2011.
Dr. Vella’s surgical knowledge and “down to earth” teaching style make him a very popular WSS faculty member. Western Surgical and Sedation is honored to have him as part of our team.
Dr. Grimaldi received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 1981, graduating first in his class. He completed residency training in Hospital Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco in 1982. Dr. Grimaldi joined the University of California, San Francisco faculty in 1983 as the Director of the General Practice Residency in Hospital Dentistry serving in that capacity until 1987. Since 1987, he has served as the director of Hospital Dentistry, offering dental treatment in an operating room setting.
Dr. Grimaldi holds state of California conscious sedation permit #2 and general anesthesia permit #1356. He is a qualified medical evaluator (#9577) for the state of California. He has been recently inducted into the American College of Dentists.
Jeffery Jack graduated from Wichita State University, School of Nursing in 1995. In 1996, he joined the Navy and was a Navy Officer nurse for 7 years. During this time, he specialized in pediatrics, medical/surgical nursing, and ambulatory care. From 2001 to the present time, Jeff has been working as a Critical Care/ICU nurse.

Tim received his RN degree at DeAnza College in Cupertino, CA. He is currently the Lead Instructor at HeartShare Training in San Jose, CA where he teaches American Heart Association ACLS, BLS, PALS and EKG interpretation.
Prior to his role at HeartShare Training, Tim worked for Riggs Ambulance Service as a paramedic for several years. There is no substitute for real-world experience saving lives. Tim Fagin brings real-world experience to Western Surgical and Sedation. His responsibilities at WSS include hands-on emergency scenarios, airway management, ACLS skills training, and EKG recognition
Teresa received her RN degree at DeAnza College in Cupertino, CA. She currently teaches BLS, ACLS, and PALS at HeartShare Training in San Jose, CA.
As Clinical Operations Manager for San Jose Medical Group, she managed 25-30 employees. Teresa also worked as the ICU charge nurse at Palo Alto VA Hospital and ER charge nurse at El Camino Hospital. She completed 6 months of open heart surgery training while at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. Teresa brings real-world experience with her when she teaches at WSS. Her responsibilities at WSS include hands-on emergency scenarios, airway management, and ACLS skills training.
Dr. Ryan “Max” Johnson was born in Los Angeles, CA. He completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, majoring in Zoology. In 2005, he received his DDS degree from the University of the Pacific dental school in San Francisco, CA.
Following dental school, Dr. Johnson completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program in the United States Air Force. It was in this residency where he became highly proficient in removing all types of third molars and also received his IV Sedation certification.
After being assigned to Texas military bases, he fell in love with the Lone Star State. He maintains a mobile third molar removal practice in Central West Texas and is a faculty member for Western Surgical and Sedation, teaching other dentists what he loves: taking out wisdom teeth!
Dr Brett Jacobson is a general dentist and owner of two dental offices in Southeast Idaho. Dr Jacobson has offered third molar removal and oral/IV sedation to his patients for more than 20 years. Dr Jacobson is married to his sweetheart Melani. Brett, Melani, and their 6 children enjoy travel, outdoor sports and spending time together. In his spare time you can find Dr Jacobson restoring and adding to his classic sports car collection.
Betty Yee was born in Hong Kong and raised in San Francisco. She currently resides in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a minor in Information and Computing Systems.
Betty worked in the technology and software industry for over 20 years. During this time, she held many positions including software engineer, project manager, development manager, and IT / MIS manager. Throughout her management career, she maintained extemely low turnover rates while managing senior level software engineers.
Betty joined Western Surgical and Sedation from its inception as Course Coordinator. Her organizational and communication skills are outstanding. She continues to play a key part in the growth and success of Western Surgical and Sedation.
